The Partnership – Creating Connections for Relocated Professionals
Attracting new executives to your company is critical and costly, but what happens once these talented transplants arrive in Minnesota? Too often we hear stories of relocated executives, especially people of color, who have difficulty developing professional and personal peer networks and getting oriented to Minneapolis St. Paul. To assist companies in better retaining professionals of color, several Minnesota based companies have worked together, through Meet Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce to develop “The Partnership – Creating Connections for Relocated Professionals,” designed to:
- Ensure relocated professionals develop a personal and professional network that includes other transplants as well as long-time Minnesotans of color
- Provide professionals of color with access to resources they need to be successful in their new community including volunteer opportunities, connections to personal services, etc.
- Acclimate relocated professionals to Minneapolis-Saint Paul’s economic, civic, political, cultural, entertainment and educational landscape
- Expose participants to real world advice on Minnesota’s business culture and how they can thrive in their organization
The Partnership is a 9 month initiative that begins May 21 and includes six afternoon sessions as well as tours and other events. An Advisory Council made up of human resource and other executives from various companies is guiding development of The Partnership. “Ensuring that professionals of color who relocate to Minneapolis St. Paul become attached to our community, acquire the skills and resources necessary to succeed in business and in their civic and personal engagement, is critical for our long-term economic vitality,” said Todd Klingel, President, Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce. “That is why the Chamber is pleased to sponsor this important initiative,” he added.
