Economic and Workforce Development

Objective: Retain and grow existing businesses while attracting new businesses and jobs to the Minneapolis area.

Strategies:

  • Support the Grow Minnesota program by completing 10 visits. (All visits completed by 9/1/07.)
  • Collaborate with the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce (MRCC) with the Focus Forward Program in partnership with Achieve!Minneapolis and the Minneapolis School System to enhance workforce development.
  • Continue to explore partnering opportunities with other local business associations to support the growth of Minneapolis businesses.
  • Support the developing MRCC economic development program.

 

Public Policy

Objective: Develop, communicate and promote local public policy positions that support the business community.

Strategies:

  • Continue Project Excellence and complete two new studies in 2007.
  • Meet quarterly with the Mayor and City Council president to discuss issues important to the business community.
  • Meet quarterly with Hennepin County Commissioners to discuss issues important to the business community.
  • Track and provide input on Minneapolis specific business interests and ask for assistance when needed. Communicate our positions on these issues via MRCC and CLCC publications. (Ongoing, as needed.)
  • Host two Governmental Forums in partnership with the Downtown Council
  • Appoint a board liaison to the MRCC Public Policy Committee

 

Member Services

Objective: Provide opportunities for members to grow their businesses through programs, activities and events. Recruit 50 new members for a total of $35,000 in new member revenue. Maintain membership retention rate above 85%.

Strategies:

  • Provide exclusive member programming through Good Morning Minneapolis monthly breakfasts.
  • Work with the MRCC Chamber Program Committee to develop meaningful programming and event opportunities for CLCC members. Appoint a liaison to the MRCC Programs committee.
  • Continue to have participation on the MRCC Membership Advisory Committee.
  • Expand the website to better serve the needs of CLCC members.
  • Appoint a liaison to the MRCC Small Business Growth & Development Committee.
  • Collaborate with the Emerging Leaders committee to increase the depth of member involvement.
  • Continue to send the weekly City of Lakes Update to CLCC members updating them on hot issues and upcoming events.
  • Work with the Northeast Minneapolis Chamber to ensure a continued successful alliance. 
  • Increase the size and diversity of the CLCC board.
