RNC Update

CivicFeast Scheduled August 29th - September 4th

Organizations and individuals interested in participating in CivicFest: A Very Minnesota Celebration may now apply for a space in the 60,000 square-foot vendor Marketplace. The mission of the CivicFest Marketplace is to showcase a variety of products to the CivicFest audience, with an emphasis on locally produced and designed merchandise.  

CivicFest, which will be held August 29 – September 4, 2008 at the Minneapolis Convention Center, is a one-of-a-kind event that will include more than 35 exhibits celebrating Minnesota and American history, democracy and the U.S. Presidency. More than 150,000 people are expected to attend CivicFest, which will be open to the general public.

Mayors Push for Green Jobs and Manufacturing

Minneapolis and Saint Paul push for green jobs, manufacturing
Mayors R.T. Rybak of Minneapolis and Chris Coleman of Saint Paul presented an aggressive blueprint that offers strategies to expand green manufacturing opportunities in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area at a gathering of government, labor, business, academia, and environmental groups on Tuesday, April 22. The study, Making it Green in Minneapolis Saint Paul, authored by Candace Campbell of CDC Associates, looked at job growth opportunities in green building, transportation, and renewable energy sectors and found significant advantages for green manufacturing.

City Council Takes Steps Toward Instant Runoff Voting

The Minneapolis City Council today approved two measures that bring the city closer to implementing Instant Runoff Voting for local elections. Minneapolis voters approved Instant Runoff Voting in a 2006 charter referendum. Since that time, Minneapolis staff and elected officials have been working aggressively to address the issues necessary to conduct IRV elections.
