The 4th Annual Northeast Celebration: An Evening of Business and Community Awards was held on Thursday, September 15th. Three businesses received recognition for their outstanding businesses. Winners were nominated by the Northeast membership for their contributions to the community, leadership and industry recognition as well as business growth, expansion and adaptability.

Executive Director, Christine Levens was given the President’s Award by the Northeast Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
The East Minneapolis Exchange Club also honored two individuals who have made significant contributions to the Northeast community. Joe Surisook-Hatch accepts the Small Business of the Year Award. His wife Holly remained at Sen Yai Sen Lek – “big noodle-little noodle”, serving guests and friends on the third anniversary of their family business.

2nd Precinct Commander, Inspector Bryan Shafer congratulates Officer Jesse Standahl on his 2010 Officer of the Year Award. Standahl was nominated by the Lieutenants, Sergeants and fellow officers for the yearly award for his work ethic, dedication and fairness. Standhahl has been on the force for only four years three years.

Eileen Hafften is the 2011 Book of Golden Deeds Award winner selected by the members of the East Minneapolis Exchange Club for her contribution to the Northeast community not only as the Executive Director of Northeast Dinner Bell, but for her work as with the Minneapolis Aquatennial.

Kristine Reed and Betsy Ward received the Large Business Award for Be The Match. Reed herself was a donor marrow recipient and was celebrating her thirteenth anniversary as a survivor, acknowledging her sister in the audience who was her donor. Be The Match is one of the largest employers in Northeast Minneapolis and is located in the Mid-City Industrial Neighborhood.

Executive Director, Christine Levens was given the President’s Award for her work for the Chamber and on behalf of Northeast Minneapolis. She also served as emcee for the evening’s celebration.
