Giving Program Spotlight-WKM Properties
WKM Properties has been a member of the Minnesota Keystone Program for 22 years. Although WKM Properties is a smaller company, their contributions, especially in the Winona area, have been significant. WKM is involved with many community programs that help strengthen the Winona community through cash donations as well as providing necessary resources for businesses to run successfully.
Some of the ways WKM gives include providing office space, free of charge, supporting organizations like The Winona Hims, YMCA, and Fair Trade Market, among many others. WKM’s most significant contributions go beyond their 5% through supporting other entities that in turn raise money for local charities. Here are some of the amazing marks WKM Properties has hit through their work:
- WKM has provided the Winona United Way with an 880 sq. ft. office space, free of charge, since 2004.
- For over 10 years WKM has provided the Winona Home and Community Options free space and equipment to build sets and prepare for their annual musical and primary fundraiser. HCO provides housing and life skills assistance for challenged adults and children.
- WKM has provided $1000 annually to regional YMCAs, as well as pledging a gift of $25,000 over the next five years for the YMCA’s New Winona Building Fund.
- WKM has also been a longtime supporter of Camp Olson YMCA in Longville. WKM provides the camp with staff uniforms as well contributing to their building projects and fundraising drives.
WKM has made leadership in the community an important part of their corporate culture. The executives at WKM have led by example - Nathan Woodworth, President at WKM, has served on Winona YMCA’s board for the past two years, the Winona Chamber board, and the board of Camp Olson for 6 years; Pete Woodworth, Chairman at WKM, serves on several non-profit boards and recently has been an advisor for Home and Community Options, the Winona Area Public School Foundation, and the Winona Community Foundation. WKM has also shown tremendous support for businesses in the community by providing entrepreneurs favorable leases, community connections, professional consultation, equipment rentals at no cost, and in some cases emergency loans.
WKM recognizes the ability they have to help local businesses, non-profit or for profit, and more importantly recognize that helping these businesses builds a better community for Winona.
The Minnesota Keystone Program is proud to feature WKM Properties in this month’s Giving Program Spotlight.
