“How to Create a Job” cover story: “Austin is emerging as one of the first pockets of the country where people are getting back to work, showing that even in this dreary economic environment, job creation can happen—and illustrating how it will eventually take root around the country.”
Join the Minneapolis Regional and Saint Paul Area Chambers of Commerce for the 9th annual InterCity Leadership Visit this fall,
November 7-9
as we study the secret to Austin’s economic vitality. Expect a strong business agenda focused on what we can learn to help the Minneapolis-St. Paul region grow and prosper in the competitive global market for talent and commerce.
We will look at why Austin tops many lists, including:
- No. 1 big city (those with a more than 450,000 non-farm jobs) for job growth in U.S. for 2010 (Forbes April 20, 2010)
- So many technology companies have relocated or started in Austin, it is now nicknamed "the Silicon Hills"
- Employment in the medical device industry has increased 8 percent in the past three years
- Ranked by the Milken Institute as the #12 biotech and life science center in the U.S.
- Ranked 1 on Portfolio.com’s list of Best Places for Young Adults, March 15, 2010
- Ranked 2 on Brookings Institution, March 2010, “Tracking Economic Recession and Recovery”
- Recently attracted a new 200 employee Facebook office
- Site of new 85,000 square foot St. Jude Medical expansion
Along the way we will also see how Austin has leveraged its role as the “Live Music Capital of the World” and become a center for both the film industry and the video gaming/graphics industry.
Details will be coming shortly, including the registration form, but please mark your calendars and plan to join the Chambers for this annual civic-building initiative!
