Transportation

The Twin Cities is a transportation hub easily accessible from anywhere in the world.

  • The region has seven public airports. It is the number one charter flight origination point in the nation.
  • The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is the 13th busiest in the U.S. and the 18th busiest in the world.
  • Four major railroad carriers that own 2,945 miles of rail lines serve the area. Amtrak provides passenger service.
  • The average driving time to work is 21.1 minutes -- the nation's lowest. The highway system ranks second lowest for congestion.
  • Metro Transit, one of the nation's largest mass transit systems, provides 95 percent of the 72 million bus trips taken annually in the Twin Cities.
  • Construction is underway on Minnesota's first light rail transit line, an electrically powered train system. Three of six commuter rail corridors are also under construction.
